Sheep
With the help and encouragement from experienced Merino shepherds and shepherdesses from across the USA, we have been working very earnestly toward our desire and the prospect of offering premium quality purebred Merinos and fine fleeces here in the upper Midwest. We are so very grateful and thrilled to announce that we are adopting a January/February lambing program here at Wool Haven and will be anticipating lambs being born here on the farm in early 2026. We are hopeful to be able to offer a limited number of stock in the spring of 2026! Fleece coloring for potential lambs include: blacks, whites (white dam with a black/dark silver/white spotted sire) and moorits (browns), silvers and variegated fleeces. We have been very intentional to carefully select premium quality stock from respected purebred Merino breeders to join our flock here at Wool Haven; current bloodlines for our sheep originate from the respected Black Sheep Farm in Virginia and Mendenhall Wool Ranch in California. Holly has a particular interest in the recessive color genetics of Merinos (moorits) and hopes to focus on a breeding program for part of our flock that will allow for the expression of those gorgeous moorit fleece colors (dark, medium, light and pale browns, silvers and variegated fleeces) in future lambs. The color gene for moorit is double recessive — the sheep must have two copies in order for it to be expressed. So, we put a few of our moorit ewes in with Brunetti, our moorit ram, and we are very excited for the prospect of also offering purebred moorit Merino lambs in 2026 as well. We are thankful that our small farm’s roster of purebred Merinos displays a beautiful variety of tones and depths of fleece coloring; from pure white all the way to black, with gradations of browns (moorit) from dark silver to dark and medium browns to lighter shades of brown to a very pale moorit. Each sheep holds a valuable place and purpose in our flock and we look forward to continuing on our shepherding journey as we set out on a mission to make wise decisions towards improving the sheep and their wool fleeces of our beloved purebred Merino flock with each lambing season!

Here at Wool Haven, our desire is to raise beautiful and thriving purebred Merino sheep with superior genetics, giving exquisitely dense and uniform fine wool fleeces with lovely, soft handle (low micron count and high comfort factor), impressive crimp and lock structure with a long staple length, from sheep with proper and sound body conformations that display the Merino breed standard honorably.
We are members of the Natural Colored Wool Growers Association (NCWGA) and the American & Delaine Merino Record Association. All of our Merinos are registered with either the NCWGA or the American & Delaine Merino Record Association according to their fleece color.
